Connect your Xiaomi to your Mac
Xiaomi’s HyperOS and MIUI are the most background-hostile Android skins there are — which is exactly why a tool that survives them is worth having. Here’s how to make Pier hold a rock-solid link to your Mac.
The reliability promise. Your Android on your Mac, and a link that stays up. MIUI/HyperOS is Critical for background reliability: Autostart is off by default, so a killed app is not even allowed to restart. The setup below is exactly what Pier’s in-app wizard walks you through on Xiaomi; doing it once is the difference between a link that comes back on its own after every drop and one that “keeps disconnecting.”
Keep Pier connected on Xiaomi — the checklist
- Security app → Permissions → Autostart → enable Pier. This is mandatory — without it, nothing else matters, because HyperOS won’t let a killed app restart at all. Note this lives in the separate Security app, not Settings.
- Settings → Apps → Pier → Battery saver → “No restrictions.”
- Lock Pier in Recents — open the recents view, pull down on the Pier card (or long-press it) and tap the lock, so the memory reaper skips it.
- Settings → Battery → turn off the aggressive MIUI memory-optimization behaviours where they’re exposed.
- On some builds, allow “Display pop-up windows while running in background” for Pier.

Why Xiaomi needs this
Pier keeps a persistent, encrypted connection to your Mac through a foreground service. HyperOS/MIUI freezes background apps hard: with Autostart off it won’t restart Pier after the reaper kills it, and its notification listener is the least reliable of any skin — which is what makes the notification mirror silently stop on unconfigured Xiaomi phones. The steps above are the ones that turn that off. After a reboot you may need to re-open Pier once so HyperOS re-arms the connection.
Tested devices. We have not run Pier on a Xiaomi handset. Two phones have been through the lab — a Samsung Galaxy A26 and an OPPO A5 Pro — and the checklist above comes from Xiaomi’s own documented power-management behaviour, which is what the in-app wizard ships. Treat it as the setup guide, not a guarantee — and if Pier can’t hold a stable link on your Xiaomi phone, the 30-day refund is unconditional.
