Signed with our Apple Developer ID. Every build carries our Developer ID signature, so you can check who built it before you run it. Notarization is not in place yet — until it is, macOS asks you to confirm the first time you open Pier (right-click → Open). We would rather tell you that here than let you meet it at the dialog; this page changes the day the first notarized build ships.

After you install

  1. Drag Pier to Applications and open it. It lives in the menu bar — there is no Dock icon.
  2. macOS asks for Local Network and Notifications. Both are needed for the phone to find the Mac and for notifications to appear.
  3. Open Pier on the phone, tap the Mac when it appears, and confirm the six digits match on both screens. Pier connects to one phone at a time — that is by design; connecting a second asks you to unpair the first.
  4. At launch, everything unlocks for 14 days from that first pairing. No card.

On a phone that freezes background apps?

Xiaomi, OPPO/Realme, Vivo, OnePlus and Samsung freeze background apps by default, which is what makes lesser tools “keep disconnecting.” Pier ships a per-brand setup wizard, and the same checklist is on the web: Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus, OPPO/Realme, Vivo, Pixel.

Updates

Pier checks this site for new versions once a day and can install them for you. Each update is signed with a key that only we hold, so even a hijacked download server could not push you code we did not build. Nothing about your Mac is sent with the check — system profiling is switched off.

Requirements, honestly

  • The phone and the Mac must be on the same network. Pier does not work over the internet, because there is no server in the middle.
  • Call audio stays on the phone or your Bluetooth headset. Pier does not play calls through the Mac’s speakers — see the FAQ.
  • Older builds are kept at /updates/ if you ever need to go back.
