Get it working, keep it connected.
Most Pier questions are one of two things: the six-digit pairing, or a phone that freezes background apps. Both are quick fixes — start here.
Set up your phone to stay connected
The one setting that matters most differs by brand. Pick yours:
Common questions
- “They won’t pair.” The phone and Mac must be on the same Wi-Fi, and macOS must have granted Pier Local Network access (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network). Pier does not work over the internet — there is no relay in the middle.
- “It disconnects after a while.” Your phone is freezing Pier in the background. The per-brand guide above turns that off — it’s the single most common fix.
- “Notifications stopped mirroring but it says connected.” Same cause: the OS killed the notification listener, and the Mac cannot currently tell that it has — it will still say connected, which is exactly why the per-brand steps above matter. If notifications stop, check that notification access is still granted to Pier on the phone.
- “Can I hear calls through my Mac?” No, and we won’t pretend otherwise. At launch Pier will show who’s calling and let you answer, decline or place a call from the keyboard — the audio stays where your phone already put it, on the phone itself or on the headset it is already connected to.
- “Can I pair two phones?” Pier connects to one phone at a time — that is by design. Connecting a second asks you to unpair the first; you can pair back whenever you like.
